Default The Mint Leaf Beetle?

I found some of these 10mm little beetles the other day on my local river. So I tied a few up to give them a try. I gather they feed on the wild river mint growing at the waters edge.

Has anyone tried them, or seen trout eating them? Has anyone caught any trout on them?

Thanks.

I am finding the beetle to be a most productive fly, I think I have caught more on beetles so far this year than any one fly.
They are my go to fly. If its windy, or there are trees around or indeed if visiting a new water, pop on a beetle!!

Regards

Dave

Like Dave I tend to use beetles if I'm fishing an area with lots of overhanging trees and bushes. Another nice thing about beetles is that you don't have to worry about the fly gently floating down like thistle down. In real life they tend to hit the water hard and that's how you have to fish them, in fact the small splat as they hit seems to be an attractor for trout.

Take care

Terry

Would be very interested to see some of these beetle patterns. Is it just the plain black foam beetle..??
