Default CDC Emergers

I have been tying up and using some CDC Emergers, they are really effective especially on tough days. My problem is getting them to float well again after taking a fish, I usually end up putting a fresh one on
Any advice would be welcome.

Steve

Yup,that is problem with CDC indeed ,specially when you fish for grayling and boy that is slimy fellow
But,there is cure for that, after catching fish just wash that fly and with 2 or 3 false casts dry it of and it is ready to float again
Or if you have amadou fungus just simple squeeze and it float again

Yes, an amadou patch to blot the water out, then drop it in a canister of "Loon top ride". Works like a bomb. Also a drop of CDC oil onto the fly before when you tie it on.

I just swish the fly in the water to get any slime off, blow a couple of times to get rid of the excess water then use some kitchen roll to dry the fly. Kitchen roll absorbs the water etc from the fly to make it as good as new.

Works on CDC and other dry fly materials. So far anyway.

amadou patch, dry fly powder and CDC oil. The oil can leave a slick if not dry before recasting.

What pattern is it? If its shuttlecock buzzer/hare's ear type, try tying it with a foam head instead of CDC plume. May not look as pretty but it'll float all day even after numerous fish.

Just to add to the posts above. I have a love/hate relationship with cdc. The yellow owl and similar patterns account for a large number of my fish. I find they can move fish when other patterns wont. But...we all know the downside!

I have found a combination of amadou, cdc oil and frogs fanny powder do the job. I spend alot of my time de-greasing leaders and applying these concoctions but it is worth it in the end.

Recently aquired one of 'Lucians' Amadou patches which works a treat in conjunction with some frogs fanny/toads tush etc and is always at hand on a clip attached to your waistjacket.

Think we need to get out and give them new patterns a test.

Mick.
