Default New Chapter

A new season is upon us and following my first outing today I would like to share a few pictures.

I managed to do a deal with flyfishy61 (Gordon) on here for a Mr Zhu 6ft6in 3# cane rod which was listed as used but must say struggle to find any evidence of this as it can only be described as mint!
Now this is my first forage into cane and as it arrived quicker than expected I thought I would take it along this morning to my pre planned trip to the local stream.
The morning was bright with a gusting wind which made things a little interesting! The advice from Gordon was to slow things down a little which after a bit of perseverance I managed to do achieving accurate casts of six or seven yards or so! I even managed to roll cast with some degree of success too.
I managed six fish in three hours fishing this morning despite an hour of chinwagging with the rivrerkeeper all falling to a tungsten bead PTN. These below are the two largest the others being mainly parr sized which bodes well for the future of our little stream.

The cane rod is an absolute delight to fish with bending right down to the butt when a fish is hooked and look forward to try it down and across soon as maybe with it being a tad softer than carbon I think I may find that I will not bump so many?

All in all a good fun day and although this may be an occasional tool I look forward to another trip or two in the future using the Mr Zhu!

Mark

Nice report, Mark. Always pleasant to catch the first fish on a "new" rod. Especially a cane rod, keep at it. You'll use it more than you think. Once you get hooked.... When you fish down and across try to keep the rod tip high so you get a belly in the line. This way you'll lose less fish, seeing the take instead of feeling it.

Tight lines,
Johan

It's great when you fish a new rod and meet with some nice fish, it goes some way in creating that unintelligable x-factor that some rods seem to have ,must say the ironmongery looks rather well also. PJ

Did you keep the fish on the left?

Nothing wrong with a Zhu cane rod Steve, delightful little thing and cosmetics are fantastic IMO.
Looks great with a Bougle on it, you have made me think I might try one on mine this year, well done, nice report.
Steven.

Nooooooooooo.

You need silk line and a J W Youngs reel with a Zhu......
Although yesterday and Saturday I have to confess to fishing plastic.
