Re: Fishing the Monnow

It's that time of year again, there is Himalayan Balsam to pull in the Monnow valley but I am pleased to report, very much less of it than in previous years. We are now only 2 years from effectively...

Re: Fishing the Monnow

You can pretty much pack away the Mayfly for another year. Summer has arrived and with it the small olives plus all manner of sedges and BWOs.

A tremendous hatch of pale wateries went on for a...

Water dropping away quite quickly but is still great on the main...

Re: MRA Auction VI Lot 11 Fishing at Kentchurch

Well done on the fishing and an great report. Thanks for your support.

As for Marfell's "pearls of wisdom"; grateful is not a word heard often in the same sentence as them. Judging by the photo,...

Re: Fishing the Monnow

It is very early in the mayfly hatch on the Monnow but a very good number of mays produced only a sparse rise, although concentrated in short areas. Where they rose it is mainly the smaller fish that...

Re: Fishing the Monnow

Reports from the top of the river; "mayfly are well on"! Concentrate; finish the marking, mow the lawns, impress the beloved and book as much time as you can on the river, it could be hectic. River...

Re: Fishing the Monnow

Well done Paul, it sounds like you had to work for them. Is there a chance the very small olives were Iron Blue Duns, especially given the poor weather conditions? Fish will really lock onto them.

Re: Fishing the Monnow

Today the water still high but with perfect colour. I am told...

Re: Fishing the Monnow

The predicted rain has not materialised and the main stem around Kentchurch and above should be fishable today and good tomorrow. The upper tribs should be perfect, with the possible exception of the...

Re: Fishing the Monnow

Early indications are that the main river will still be out of order this weekend and the state of the upper tribs will be in the hands of the weather gods but the Honddu's levels fall very quickly...

Re: Monnow Social 2013 - The fun starts here.

Good decision, Vince; glad it payed off.

I couldn't fish yesterday (some might say I couldn't on the Saturday!) had to go to parents' 50th wedding anniversary via a shower and detox unit.

Better off out of it, I say. Doubt you'll miss anything. We'll save you some lettuce leaves and mineral water. Safe journey and don't bang the 'early doors' too hard, when you arrive!

Re: Monnow Social 2013 - The fun starts here.

Rain in Honddu valley is upping the guage. I suggest that Kev and Headshakes make contact so that you have the option to make rearrange, if river is out - it does drop very quickly so is worth going...

Re: Monnow Social 2013 - The fun starts here.

If you wanted you could either team up with Kev and fish the two beats together or agree to swap over half way through the day.

Enjoy, whatever
