Default wading at night

managed a couple of hours last night on a local river.cought 1 about 10.30 then just knocks till 1.00am.
i was wading when fishing pool but literally just a couple of steps in not upto the waist job.
i was approached by a local member who said if any of the locals saw you do that they would be ****** off becaus you ruin the pool for every one else.
he was fishing off the banck and omnly had boots on.
the last thing i want to do is **** off a local at night
does he have a point, can you ruin a pool by wading and i literally mean couple of steps in.
does anyone else wade at night?

All depends on the pool you're fishing/size of river etc Gelert. I fish the Conwy which is quite large, the pools are wide and the fish run up the far bank, so wading is a must. It is possible to disturb a pool for a long period by careless wading, especially entering and exiting the pool, it's vital you create as little disturbance as possible. If the river is small enough so you don't need to wade to cover the fish correctly and present the fly properly then you shouldn't. I would suggest that if you were only a couple of steps in then you could have probably fished it without wading, though without knowing the water it's impossible to say for certain. On some of the pools on the Conwy you're wasting your time unless you have chest waders, I'm guessing by the user name you might have been fishing the Glaslyn?

Sounds like wader envy to me?

What are the club rules, left / right bank rights etc - that would be my first reference point?

Just back from Diawl Bach's spot on the Teifi, not possible to fish some spots without wading.

All the locals were wading be it whilst worming, spinning or fly fishing ... Both day and night. Great bunch met more in the local river than the local pub!

I could see the objection if you jumped into a good lie but given most wade to get closer to the hot spots rather than march through the middle of them I can't see the problem?

Ready to be corrected!

Don't think I've seen a night fisher on the Towy NOT wading.

It all depends upon the pool you're fishing and the water level - some pools you will have to wade, others you could be wading through fish even if you're only knee deep.

we fished the river dwyfor approx 20min from caernarfon.
some parts were more of a rockery than a fishable river but we engoyed ourself nevertheless.
some were hooked some were lost but we'll be back again.there were overhanging trees and wading to just get that extra distance was needed imo.
there is a small hardware/fishing shop in criceth and the info got there proved infaluable together with a reccie of the river.
