Default Sea Trout on Skye

I've booked a lovely place next year on the banks of a loch on the Isle of Skye. Close by are several rivers which according to my research have fair runs of Sea Trout.

This is going to be my first crack at catching one so any advice appreciated.

Will my ressie outfit be OK (9'6" 7w)?
Type of flies?
Can you catch during the day or is all night time?

Thanks in advance.

Done quite a bit of sea trout fishing on Skye. Has always been during the day on spate rivers and lochs.

I use a 10ft #6 and is plenty heavy enough. A lot of the rivers are pretty small so you could go lighter.

Most days I would be hitting finnock with the largest seatrout up to 2lb. Its a sad state of affairs are the old catch returns show regular catches of double figure fish back before the war.

I found the best patterns for fresh run fish to be a combination of silver and blue (teal blue and silver and medicine fly).

I've seen a few on the streetview of Google where they go under bridges and thought they looked quite small. I'll take my 9' 5w as well.

Default Thanks

Cheers Sunrider I have just had a quick scan over the site and there is soooo much fishing it boggles the mind. I bet you could stay a year and not get close to fishing it all !

I need to find a way of narrowing my choice down asap, if Jansport is some sort of tackle shop then maybe they will be able to help.

I'm really looking forward to this road trip, fingers crossed my 6 year old x-trail (140k miles) gets me there and back.

Default Whistle stop tour

Well I have already made my first mistake in handing over the schedule planningl, we are now doing South Uist, Benbecula, Grimsay, North Usit, Harris, Lewis, Skye and Eigg

I hope between driving and selling my "western isles tour tee shirts" I will find the time to grab some fishing, Skye is now down to a three day stay, the others a day !

If nothing else its a great introduction to western isles and hopefully it will lead longer more focussed trips.
