Post Snake Flies

I'm wondering if anyone can help me locate the following materials for tying snake flies!
I need to locate 50 lbs clear braid, clear shrink tube.
Also red pearly mylar body and red mirage overwing.
Here is a link to website for tying a snake fly!

Default snake fly

Give Iain a call at Anglers all in colne - 01282 860515
He'll be able to sort you out with everything you need.
Personally I wouldnt bother with the shrink tube or swivel on the front, just loop the braid and use superglue to add the desired stiffness. If you want it really supple dont double the braid along the whole length of the body, only at the ends.
my photo's a bit poor but only had my phone to hand.

i have to say that the red mylar in the pic you link to looks tantilizing, think i'll be popping in!
All the best

I agree with Roders, no need for a swivel or the shrink tubing.

Any veniard stockist should have a fair range of mylar, colours and sizes.

Can't go far wrong with silver mylar and black bucktail for the wing.

Default Ooooooo.

Some time back I did a cut and paste of these to a US based board (a major board I might add) and "Dai" was kind enough to come on and do a step by step.

Some thing completely (who k)new to 99% of the folks?

Too cool.

Personally I have found the use of a swivel gives a clear advantage which is that it adds a little weight to an otherwise very light fly and this helps it fish at a decent depth without the use of a sink tip or sinking line.

I think you are spot on with these comments! i think the fly will be to light without the swivel.
Sewinbasher what colour combo's work well for you?

I use both types of snakes with and without the swivel, alldepends on the mood i'm in,,(but i'd still rather use a tube than a snake),,the only time i use shrink tube on a snake is when i do glow snakes and it aids protect the glow powder on the body, also i only use 20lb masterline braid(after all your doubling everything up anyway)and to break 20lb on a fly rod takes some doing...

both mounts..

a quick charge..

also if you use a swivel and shrink tube you can tie a easy snake with carp braid(kryston type)if you black the braid with a black marker it acts as a lateral line on the fly..

braidy snake..

some 'dark knights'

elver snake..

anything you can do with a snake you can do with a tube(and tubes are easier to tie!!!!

specially made snake vice helps...

when tying snakes for second half work close to the bottom, tie the snake using a double as it swims upside down most of the time, thus avoiding lots of snagging up...
