They are known as secret weapons
I would use a size 14 or 16 on the end of a size 10

When Sea Trout were nipping at my maggot tipped fly I added a small treble size 14 attached to about half inch of twisted alasticum wire. This was many years ago when I fished the tidal waters of the River Leven at night. It was very succesful in that form & caught me a fair few fish that I might not have had.

Try size 12-14, if you can get decent ones, some are too soft and will bend straight, a small single works well, short shank, heavy wired , size 14-10.

You should be fine with a size 14.
I mainly use tube flies but tie the pattern short, no more nipping without the fish taking the treble into their mouths.
However i use a flying treble on my wake lures.
Cheers
