I watched a Hugh Falkus film and he said when a certain flower came out in his area he new the first of the sea trout were on there way , Is there anything I can look out for to let me know they are there or do I always have to rely on word of mouth .....?

Usually you could bank on the fact that the first of the sea trout would arrive in callander during the last week end in May. It was uncanny how offen this happened.

As for the Allan mid april was the time.

cheers

I was lucky enough to catch one of the early runners on the Allanwater last April (11th 2009). Cracking fish of 7lbs on an upstream goldhead - lost a similar sized fish in April 2008 to the same method! Strange but true!

The early runners are the bigger fish, but harder to find!!

I haven't seen this film, but we do have a similar saying on the Conwy.

When the foxgloves appear, they're on their way.

Had a couple of 3lbers (returned) on the upper Earn on Mon so I'd expect them to be on your water too.
