Default Sea trout flies for an estuary

Hi all, i have been offered an invite to go fishing for sea trout at a local estuary but having never attempted this type of fishing, can anyone recommend some flies for me to purchase before i go?

If you're fishing where I think you're going to be fishing then Parson Tom, Baltic Special, Gadget, Blue Elver and Medicine should work

That's what I thought Watch out for the red flags on the firing range, the squaddies get a bit agitated if you're fishing and they're shooting........

The estuaries are looking tempting at the moment; they must be stuffed with fish given the dry weather. I have seen seals in the estuaries at Aberystwyth and Aberaeron in recent weeks!...

Has anyone had ago in any of the estuaries in west Wales? any success?

Default ESTUARY FLIES

Hi,
Good choice of flies from 'shuck raider' ..The best fly I have used for estuarine sea trout is the 'collie dog' primarily a salmon fly it's great for sea trout.Fished on a tube in smaller sizes than for salmon.Representing an actual elver the long black flowing wing has superb mobility.
Elvers run into river systems during the month of May and as part of sea trout's staple diet they find them hard to resist ! There are still many elvers to be found in estuarine waters during early summer,so for me it would be my first choice of fly.
Other tried and tested patterns that I use are taken from my rainbow trout box....Mylar minnow...polystickle...jersey herd...roach fry...
Most fry style patterns will take sea trout in the brine..
Broken ground with banks of sea weed are the best holding ground.Providing cover from predators and as a food source.

Kindest regards Tight Lines,
JOHN
