Default floating thingies ???

Hope this topic has not been done to death. Sorry for another thread ohhhh need some info.

I have read about floating lures. You know those muddler things. Do they work ?? Had a go at making one and it floats but erm it's a bit scraggy. The lure looks like a punk rocker's hair on a bad day lol, but do they work ?? They look nothing like anything that lives ??? Can you use different colours ? Can you make them unsinkable ? Any advice on patterns would be really welcome.

oh I have never caught a sea trout by the way.

For the love of god there's one on the forum! Where did she come from? Is nowhere sacred ?

Well she's here now so best help her out

IF your after seatrout at this time of year your in for a long cold fruitless day.
Late April early May that's when the big fellas arrive. Skating a muddler across a pool is over rated for seatrout. Go for big hooks sizes 6 + salmon irons or long tubes with little trebles. Any combination of black/silver/white/blue. That's for river fishing, mostly carried out by the effeminate types

Big nasty lochs are an altogether different prospect, real man fishing.

Head up to the Kyle of Sutherland in June. IF you can't catch a seatrout there........... PM me and I'll teach you lesson or two

never caught an ST on one myself, but then again i haven't done an awful lot of fishing for them, but from what other people have told me they certainly catch fish - probably a warm night job though really and the ST are very wary in daylight. I've have quite a few ST on normal dry flies fished upstream dead drift, so they're certainly catchable of the surface.

hopefully that's of some help to you

Forget about the deer hair.just make it out of foam a lot easier and floats better.

Default Muddler Minnow?

Is that the fly you're referring to? If so it's one of single most popular flies used here in the US. You can tie it in any colour, or colour combination, you want and it fishes just as well 'wet' as dry.

Almost every fish (species) in the US can be caught using this pattern.

We can add Canada to that list too Fred...lol.

If I had one fly and one fly only to fish with for the rest of my life in Canada it would be a muddler. It can be fished wet or dry and in a variety of colors and tying styles...basically it looks like a gob of food on a hook.

Though I have to admit I haven't tried it on our sea run browns...but then again I don't/haven't done much of that type of fishing...

There's a recent thread in this forum (ie Sea trout fishing) called 'Fly choice for seatrout'. Take a look.

And why do you keep saying ohhhhhhh ?
