Default are there many sea trout in the Ribble ?

We are planning a fishing trip onto the river Ribble. I would like to know where to fish on a day ticket or week ticket. Is it any good for sea trout ? What chance have we of catching a salmon ? What are the best times and the best flies ? Erm my fella wants to do some spinning erm disagree but rather than not go, I would accept his offer mmmmmm.

any advice would be more than welcome.

Hi,i have spent most of my fishing life on the Ribble although not on the fly, there are good seatrout numbers running through in the height of summer and i will be having a go for them myself this year,
As for day tickets there are plenty but after June you will have to share most of the stretches with the barbel anglers, but to name a few i would say TickleTrout just of the m6,
Ribchester, get your ticket from the village shop,or and this is my favourite stretch and it is free Shawes arms stretch on London road, your fella will like this stretch for spinning as there are some good pike there also, but it is tidal so becareful and park your car across the road in front of the houses if you are fishing on into darkness unless you are fishing the bridge pool,
There is also Mitton beat which is about the best the ribble has to offer for day ticket fly fishing
I am sure somebody else will come along with more options, good luck in your quest.

Paul

Talk to the staff at Ted Carters tackle in Preston. They can tell you about good beats in the town, round the police station etc.. fishing in Preston itself is free. Also about getting permits for tickled trout and other strtches
As for the quality of the fish, some one a few years back was claiming a couple of fish in an evening that where close to and/or record fish that he alledgedly caught quite a way in land. The fish were real.

Thanks for the information. We have sorted it out.

You might be interested to know that in the Prince Albert portfolio of waters 5 of the 10 most productive sea trout beats are on the Ribble/Hodder system.

We are on the waiting list. we put our names down a couple of weeks ago. We are going to become members of the Bradford city club who have a length of the ribble from settle to little preston, but I have heard it is slow and deep so not sure we will catch anything there.

I'm with Bradford City AA. I have fished the stretch you mentioned.

I think you mean Long Preston

I have been 3 times last year and only missed a couple of fish once on a flying "C" in deep water. This was around July.

There are fish there. You just have to search for them.

I will be fishing for them this year.

There are an occasional chub, trout and a few grayling to be caught.

Don't forget you need a key!
