Default Erne Estuary

Anyone ever fish the Erne Estuary at Ballyshannon. I was thinking of giving it a go this year, never fished for sea trout before.
I know I need the NFB licence and a special local licence. Where do you get the special local licence?
When is the best months to fish it, what about tides, and which flies would you use? Any advice appreciated.

Yes, go out with a local angler or boatman,
them sand flats you see at low tide fill up with water very quickly,
very fast tide rises in ballyshannon

The estuary at Ballyshannon is full of sea trout, and take heed of the warning!
tides in any area like this can be dangerous, and cut you off when your concentrating on your fishing.
A boat is the best thing, but good fishing can be had wading.
Snake flies were being raved about by a angler who was in Sean McGuire's Melvin tackle at Garrisson, And he asked Sean to tie him some, black and silver.
Iv caught on silver invicta and white lures or closer, but a sand eel drifted back unweighted is by far the most productive, so try to imitate that.
As for License I thought a n/w region salmon licence would do but I could well be wrong.
Sean McGuire would put you right.

Thanks for replies Hobble and MM, I was intending boat fishing mainly. One of the tide timetables would be useful, i imagine you would head out when the tide allows to launch the boat and back in again before it goes too low, but as said would need to be very careful. I was looking at this website and it mentions a 26 euro add on licence
Northern Regional Fisheries Board
Cheers

I fished it years ago but i had a different approach i parked in bundoran and walked up the beach tooks bloody ages and pulled the legs out of you, i spun with a green fish cast along the sides and reeled as hard as the reel would go had some good sport but the hydro release from ballyshannon was the biggest problem the water would be black and the trout either werent there or not playing ball.
