Default Palnure Burn, Newton Stewart

Does anyone have any advice regarding the above mentioned Palnure Burn? We will be having a family holiday there in May. I tried on the salmon forum, but no luck!
Any advice would be welcome - from flies to tackle. Thanks in advance,
Paddy

Hi Paddy,

I've just been up there last week - didn't fish the rivers, but I found the lads in Galloway Angling Centre in Newton Stewart really helpful. I'm sure they'd be able to help

cheers

Default Thanks, folks

Thanks for the replies - it sounds as though I'll need to pack a spinning rod as well as a fly rod. I would like to at least try with the flies!

We will be staying at one of the Bargaly House cottages and I believe I can get permits from there, too. It's also right on the burn .....

Cheers,
Paddy

It might be worth making some enquiries with the Galloway Fisheries Trust who have an overview of many of the rivers in that area.

Better trying the lochs run by Newton Stewart angling association, Permits from Galloway angling centre. The Palnure burn fishes better later on in the season.

I used to fish it with a worm (many, many, many years ago) you'll struggle to cast a fly on some of the better named pools. Hope this helps.

Mark.

Thanks for the replies folks. There was me thinking I had actually wangled a holiday with some decent fishing attached! I will have a go anyway, I'll take both fly and metal flinging gear. I'll only be allowed one day to fish, so I'll make the most of it ....
