Default New Sewin / salmon rod

Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you all !!!!

I was looking for a bit of advice if you could help? I am looking to get a new 10ft 8wt Sewin (sea trout) / single handed salmon rod and was wondering if anyone could reccommend anything?. As the Hardy demon is now on sale I was wondering if that was any good or should I just go for one of the guidelines?

Cheers

Rob

Most trolling rods are made for the same purpose as any other trolling rods unless you fishing saltwater, that's when things get tricky. Make sure the rod fits the lure you are using. Most big lure such as spoons and heavy lures require longer poles to give the lure a better action. Just go out and have fun. If it doesn't work it's most likely the lure you are using not the rod itself.

Don't know about the Demon (maybe a bit fast if you're planning night fishing?) but don't bother trying to go for one of the Le Cies that Glasgow Angling Centre have on sale!! I tried, with exactly the same thing as you in mind and they were next to useless when I called them. I bought rs2ford's Loomis GLX instead. Far better to deal with!

I would recommend the Scandinavian makers (especially Loop as I have most experience of them) as they seem to do this type of rod very well IMHO. I would have gone for a Loop myself I just couldn't resist a medium-fast Loomis when I saw it

Is a Sewin the same as the Seatrout we fish for or is it a different species?

It's just what us cave dwellers call a SeaTrout.
