Default Whats happened to the lyn?

This is an entry from my fishing diary 23rd June 1993.

1 seatrout 3lb 4oz, 6 peal from 8oz-12oz. All fresh off the tide, huge run in on dawn tide and lower river pools all stuffed with seatrout and the odd grilse, winkled out 7 on upstream worm. Lost a 4-5lb seatrout that broke me off under the path. Oh for a fly a night!

The EA catch stats show 30 seatrout for the whole river in 2008.

Has anyone got any ideas what's gone wrong?

You are quite right to raise the issue. This chart demonstrates how serious the situation is on the Lyn for sea trout!

Is anybody/group on the case?

Colin.

Default Sea Trout

It's not just the Lyn that seems to be having problems....

Please elaborate Yeoman, Which rivers are you talking about

I fish the neighbouring Taw every year with some friends, and this year we had our usual excellent sport with fish from 1.5-9lb.

IMHO the declining catch on the Taw is down to reducing effort. They catch 70-80% of the annual catch on one of the beats we fish in the 3 nights of our weekend! That beat would be worth 150+ fish p/a if translocated to West Wales!

On the Lyn I have fished it heavily from the late 80's to 2003 and occasionally since. During this period rod pressure has steadly climbed.
