Today is probably my last outing of the season on the Yorkshire Esk. I have yet to catch a seatrout there this year.
The water was low, slimy and full of leaves. Heigh ho.
However, I persevered. Went to the bottom of the beat, fishing a size 1 silver Mepps upstream, a method which has worked well in the past.
After 2 fruitless hours, I had a follow. A fish 2-3 lb followed the Mepps for some distance. As the lure approached the bank, the seatrout accelerated to grab the lure..........at this point it saw me, did a double take and tore off into the depths.
That's it, my last chance of the season.
Why so cruel fishing gods? I would have returned it!
Arrrrrrrrrrg!!!!!!!!!
PS it is now pouring down, and I am away in Scotland tomorrow then unable to fish next week...........
