Default Tamar by day

Hi everybody,

Some really interesting stuff in these 'sea trout' pages. I am going down to the Tamar this weekend in search of Sewin. Can anyone suggest the best beat to fish if I am hoping for a day time fish??

I am thinking of the Arrundel arms water somewhere.

Also would anyone suggest the Teign instead? I fished this river years ago for trout and saw a cracking sea trout charging up through a shallow pool tail as I waded after the wee browns.

Any thoughts very much appreciated!

Robbie

Replied to your Tamar/Arundel Arms queston on the other thread. For the Teign, try here:

Rob Mason fishes that neck of the woods. Try a PM to him.

Well you wont find any sewin down here! You might get some nice peal though

On the Arundel Arms water I think you are best heading for the Lyd but I'm sure they will advise.

The Dart is another option if the Tamar is too coloured (I doubt it will be but you never know). There are reports of peal (sea trout) on the Duchy water up on the moor, tickets from nearly every hotel or post office on the moor. I think you would need the river to be well up for daytime peal fishing on the Dart.

For a split second it puzzled me also, I couldn't understand why only small fish were to be targeted, but that's because I fish the Dyfi where only small fish - up to 1 3/4 Lb. are known as Sewin. Above that weight they are called Seatrout or just 'fish'. Weird that as, as far as I know, everywhere else in Wales the names Seatrout and Sewin are interchangeable and apply to any size fish.
