Default Torridge & Dart

A friend of mine has moved to Devon and plans to fish the above rivers for sea trout when the season starts. He has asked me to tie him some flies. I would appreciate some suggestions from members experienced in fishing these rivers as to suitable patterns to tie.

Hi I've fished the torridge for the past 12 years and can honestly say it's the most beautiful river I've come across.
There's a good run of school peal from mid June onwards, the bigger fish arriving in May.
A touch of yellow is always good on the Torridge. Small silver stoats tail doubles have taken the majority of my fish.
It is a river that can produce sea trout during the day. They often rise to flies so nymphs and dry fly often get results.
Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for that Stuart I appreciate your advice. What make, type and sizes of hooks would you use for the Stoats tails?

No problem - I would go small in normal water conditions. Size 12/14 low water doubles should do the trick. Kamasans B280 are good.

The snakes would be for night time rather than day.
