Very true Craigie, smaller patterns do work well in daylight, even in slightly coloured water, and dry fly can give a big surprise. I was dry fly fishing for small browns on the Glaslyn many years ago and got a big shock when a 3lb sewin sipped it down!!

Also I've had success with nymphs and Oliver Kite wrote about catching sea trout using the induced take and his PTN. In autumn a surprising number of salmon on the Welsh Dee pick up a czech nymph intended for grayling.

There is a blackbird on every thorn and a cock chaffinch, a twink as they call him there, on every bush...... It moved me profoundly. I had been spared to see another spring, and I thank God for it.”

Took a rake of sea Troots down the tweed in december whilst fishing for grayling. My mate had one at 6lbs. was still getting the odd kelt in december when the water was fishable. Every one of them on the egg flee. ironic or what? great fight on the 3 weight lol

I love seatrout fishing at night, i spend a few nights on the Spey every year and there is no where i would rather be in June with the cairngorms in the background.
Everything Sewin basher has said is spot on.
Dont get complicated just keep it simple and fish the usual sea trout patterns.
Stoats tail and teal blue and silver do it for me.
Like SD said keep them sparse.

A good tip is to make up a few casts in daylight and keep them in your pocket.

I will be at the Glaslyn in July any tips Sewin basher?
I have been down that way the last two years but never tried for the sea trout there, it is a bit donting fishing a strange water on your own

Dont panic when you hear strange noises at night.

Tight lines!
