Default Clyde estuary sea trout.

Went,"Doon the Watter" yesterday with the kids and father in law in tow. Set out for a few mackkies but all we managed to catch were sea trout!!!
Nice fish around pound, pound and half.
The main point is this though. They aint crawling with sea lice!!!
Why is that I hear you say, well no dammed salmon farms on the Clyde.

Way back in seventies when i stayed in Sandbank on Holy Loch, i used to catch lots of sea trout from shore on mepps and the like.
The herling of about a pound never had lice. These were the most prolific.
Occasionally i would get a bigger fish of 3 lbs plus, always showing lice.
could be that the herling aint been in sea long enough, or far enough, to accumulate the lice.
Now i aint saying farms dont increase infestation, as this has been proven on smolting fish, all i am saying is that in natural environment sea lice will always be evident on migratory fish that spend longer at sea!

bert

I hear what you are saying Bert. An odd louse aint a problem, but when you see a fish covered in them you have to start questioning what is going on.

What a shame Graham, No mackies. Usually a different story when we target the sea troot eh.

Well done m8.

Just spooled up my reel tonight with a Loop salty 7 wt, just need to get some heavy leader now. I have been advised to go to 12-15lb leader. What length of leader would do?

Kevin

Aye back in the 60's used to catch the sea trout near the mouth of thr river kip, we called it the blue lagoon, that was before the marina screwed up the fishing.
