Default Sea trout River Urr

This was a real surprise fish for me, I was teaching some beginners and using a Sharpes Gordon series 1 #5 3lb nylon and size 16 dry black gnat, I said we might pick up a small trout in this streamy run, just flick the fly out with a small roll cast and let it drift down, bang, this feels like a good fish! 20 minutes later I got it close enough to see it.

We guessed the weight between 10 and 12 lb she went back to surprise someone else. can't figure out how to link photo so
go to Flickr, Chicksinrubber.

Photos's not showing up.

Know of a five pounder off the Burgh stretch of the Nith and heard rumours of a double figure ST off the River Cairn but not been able to verify as yet.

Shame we have got so much water again and more due tonight and tomorrow.

Nice photostream.

I assume this is the fish in question? There are various ways of 'lifting' images. Flickr gave the option of various sizes after 'right clicking' the image. Large 1024 x 614 option selected (should enlarge here). I'd say salmon.

Hya,
I thought salmon too, but a couple of locals reckoned sea trout, probably cause we had a run of them and we get few salmon at this time of year.

OK, it's the correct image, wasn't sure.

In the secondphoto a count can be performed, the scales are large and unmistakeably salmon.

I am just happy that I got a photo, after such a long time on the line I was more concerned with getting her back in safely and fit than checking her over. She did take some time to go but saw her swim off across stream.
