Default Skye Sea Trout

I'll be up in Skye next month and fancy having a crack at some Sea trout. I'll be fairly close to the river Snizort which I'm told is good so any advice on catching one of these creatures, flies etc?

BTW I also intend on fishing the sea loch as we've hired a lovely boat house right on the shore and should be able to throw a line right outside our window.

Default Re: Skye Sea Trout

I go up to Skye every year around late May/early June and have always been told that I'm too early for river sea trout fishing. I know that the River Sligachan does not even start selling day permits until July. I would guess that most sea trout will have returned to sea by now and can probably be targeted within the estuaries/sea lochs. The rivers on Skye are all spate rivers and fresh runs of fish are very much tied to periods following rain. Suggest that you have a chat with the gillie at Skeabost House Hotel.

The mayfly hatch should be in full swing on the Storr Lochs north of Portree: day or week permits can be obtained from Island Cycles in Portree. Well worth a crack from either boat or bank.
