Default Elver fly and vulturine guinea fowl feathers

Hi i was trying to find these feathers without much luck but want to try the fly some way. Then looking at my jungle cock cape I notice feathers without the "eyes" have a white bar down the middle and though shorter i imagine than the vulturine i wonder could they be used or has anyone used them for this or other flies? pat

Yes they are a good substitute for vulturine, I doubt the fish care.

You can dye them and use them on small seatrout flies.

Real vulturine is hard to get and expensive.

Vulturine is a nightmare to get hold of. Peter Cockwill at Albury Game Angling often has some, he sold me my last lot...

Tkhe elver's a beautiful fly though!

I can confirm that albury game angling in surrey has vulturine guinea fowl at the moment - I was in there last week.
They're not cheap but they are beautiful

Have you seen this on youtube re. tying the elver fly

Default Blue Elver.

Hi,
I first came across the Blue Elver almost thirty years ago when I was on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. It is I believe an Arthur Ransome Fly ?
However we always fished it as a dropper when loch fishing. As an attractor fly,
most of those salmon hooked came to the elver normally as the fly surfaced and created a wake on the surface,as the angler drew into the backcast.
Many a time I witnessed salmon chasing and snapping at the fly resulting in hard takes..
Other times short lining from the boat fish would rise almost immediately to the dropper, striking as soon as the 'boil' at the elver was observed [ before feeling the fish ] ensured a solid hook up.
The most successful salmon fly I ever used or seen used for salmon.
'Dibbling the fly' in the river is just as successful.

OF HILL AND LOCH
