Default Whaddya reckon, chaps

I'm not a great STist: I've usually only caught them when I've been after bass or mullet. But here I am, in the Falklands, with STs as my main target. So, you're faced with a narrowish estuary, with a few pools. Tidal drop is eccentric: big gap at springs, very small gap at neaps. Food: sand smelts (atherines) in summer, krill later on. Usual bits of cruddy weed floating about at peak of flow/ebb. Sky invariably bright, often sunny. Wind a pain.

So, advice, please: what's the first fly you'd try?

I vaguely remember an old article in the Fly Fihser and Fly tyer that recommended a slimmed down Ali shrimp fly on a single, size 8 or 10.

Sounds like a small clouser would work.

Fish you are after are probably closely related to the big sea trout of argentina and tdf.
Would therefore make sense to try some south american sea trout patterns!
look at this site for pictures and how to fish them.

Default Our man in South Georgia

Heard this as I was driving to work this morning. He even managed to put PETA right:

BBC News - Today - South Georgia to cull reindeer

Any news on the sea trout fishing?
