Default Upstream nymphing for sea-trout??

Is upstream nymphing a recognised method of fishing for sea-trout? If so, what flies are suggested?

Hi, I have a few on nymphs while after trout on the River Towy a few years back, fished tight into steep banks on the other side I did get nobbled by a few sewin. The patterns I used were home made so sorry no names to these, one was a pink sparkle czech nymph with a red brown shellback, and the other a very basic pattern just front half peacock herl and rear half copper wire tied czech style tied quite large around size 8, these seem to sort out the larger trout as well...which was nice
cheers Glyn
I have also had a salmon on a very large flo lime green ptn tied on a L/S size 4 from the same water.

I've just a lot of seatrout on nymphs Richard long lining them, french nymphing and as Craigie with a nymph fishd under a klink, stimmy or balloon caddis. You'll be surprised at the number you catch when they are in the system.

Ya........ Caddis nymph............ light grey rabbit under fur with a white collar with or without black head hackle. I rib with fine silver wire.

I used it for a sea pool on fish that were fresh in and wouldn't take anything else.

Upstream nymphing works well and I have had some success with a tungsten beaded silver-bodied pattern. Mind you, I did get told off on a well known Welsh river some years ago for daytime fishing, the keeper was of the opinion that I was screwing up the pool for the night fishers
