I had one go at them last year and aim to try a few more times this winter. Didn't have any success when I did but I'd have thought that something like a clouser that can be skipped over the botom with the hook inverted would be a good bet and should make a decent imitation of a shrimp.

A lot of guys down this way seem to use those small crab patterns or a mini weighted shrimp. They let them sink to the bottom and tweak them along so they kick up a little cloud of sand on the flats. Not had a go at flounder yet, although I did see one go up one of my favourite seatrout pools two weeks back..... it's about 11 miles from the coast.

I would try a small bright wooly worm, about 10 inches behind a flyspoon. They love a bit of flash to attract them and one of the main foods they eat are rag worms. A wooly worm on a long shank hook should do the job nicely.
When I was a kid we used to get heaps of flounder from Pompey harbour using a similar set up, but with a real rag worm instead of a fly.
All the best.
Mike

Tan weighted bone fish flies do the trick!
they are designed to kick up cloud off sand when pulled, quick pull, then slow slow slow, wil hook flounders.

I caught a plaice by accident last year using a Triangle Fly The Triangle Fly - A strange kind of saltwater fly for sea trout - nothing like other flies - Global FlyFisher it really couldnt get any easier to tie than this but I was alway wondering if I should have been using something a bit more elaborate while fishing with this fly!
