arturas , when you can fish depends on where you are in the UK. In England and Wales the regions may have slightly different dates when you can fish for Brown Trout/ Sea Trout/ Salmon. Also remember that to fish for either Salmon or Sea Trout on rivers in England and Wales you must have an EA Migratory licence.

Have a look at these pages from the EA website for information:
Regional byelaws incl dates
Environment Agency - Rod Fishing Byelaws
so if you are in the NW of England, you can't fish for sea trout between 01-Oct and 31-Mar; you can't fish for Salmon between 01-Nov and 31-Jan;
but in the Midlands, you can't fish for sea trout between 08-Oct and 17-Mar; you can't fish for Salmon between 08-Oct and 31-Jan. We don't like to make things simple

National byelaws for Salmon and sea trout
Environment Agency - National salmon and sea trout byelaws

No, we don't fish for sea trout that have spawned ... we refer to them as 'kelts', like salmon. As a previous poster has said the season for sea trout varies throughout the UK but generally fishing for them doesn't really start until April / May and to protect the spawning stock many associations have a ruling that members should return sea trout that are caught after the end of August.

I know you call them kelts and I'm not looking for meat. I just want to find out information how it is going in UK. Becouse in my country you can fish seatrouts after the 1st of january. of course you can fish salmon as well but they all are already gone to the sea. while seatrout stays till april. so my intention is very simple: if it is possible to organize some fishing in early spirng, lets say beggining of march and use the holidays I have, preventing them from disappearing . that's it

Short answer is there's no sea trout fishing worth taking a holiday to pursue until at least May in the UK. Top months are June > August usually.

If you have some holidays in March then I'd advise you to go fishing for spring salmon on a river like the Dee in Scotland. It's very prolific at that time of year so you should do well.

The only place you could do that would be in the sea round the Orkney Islands.

now I'm totally confused
In Lithuania is simple: seatrout and salmon come august - october. you can fish them until spawning period october 15 - january 1st. then salmon go back straight away to the baltic sea and sea trout stays up to the end of april. and you can fish them after january 1st. if rivers are not under the ice

and here I don't understand how fish behaves or travel? what is the annual cycle?? can somebody tell me about it or direct to some good sources of information?

MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE!

It's a bit confusing and in the UK the legal seasons vary according to local rules. There is also I believe a real legal muddle as sea run trout and resident brown trout are the same species. Here is our local situation:

Locally the seatrout main runs are from June to October - peaking in August normally. They can be legally fished for from Mid-February until end Ocober although all seatrout caught before 1st May have to be returned. Most spawn in November. After that many stay in the river until the following May - behaving and looking like resident brown trout before dropping back to sea.

Some don't go back to the sea at all but stay in the loch on the system becoming large resident piscivorous brown trout - we call them Ferox. (Not all our ferox have been to sea but some seatrout do change life style). These trout which have changed lifestyle also have different laws applied to them as resident brown trout have different seasons. In our case March 15th to October 6th.

On Many rivers in Scotland You can fish for Spring Salmon(springers) fom the 12-15 january, but must return all kelts, Salmon and Seatrout, and most rivers demand that all fish caught are returned until 1st june.
