Anybody fished recently?

The last time we went was a couple of seasons ago
and didnt think it was up to much.

Hi Rabster, Morton's fishing well since it was taken over march 2009, it is stocked weekly with blues and rainbows from 2lb up to double figures.

I started to fish Morton with the club 20 odd years ago but stopped going when it went into decline with it's previous management. They were hardly stocking it and the weeds were left to go rampant
Went back last summer to find all the weeds had been cut and a generous stocking policy had been introduced
Had an amazingly great day last Friday with free rising Rainbows all over the place and decent hatches of various fly throughout the day. A single dry quickly aimed at the rises was doing the trick with very confident takes from the trout.
I'm getting the impression that it's being underfished given the amount of trout I saw so would highly recommend a trip to any old Morton lovers out there.
It's tragic that the previous management were running it into the ground for so long but hope folk are willing to go back and give it another chance.

I fished Morton for the first time today. What a day that was!! Under new management, I was not sure what to expect as I had heard that it had been fantastic a few years ago but it exceeded my expectations, it was one of the best days fishing I have had in a while.

One of my team-mates, Ali Brodie, fished with me and we had 8 hours on the water fishing. Starting at 09:30 I set up a blob and two crunchers and after about 10 seconds of a moderate figure of 8 retrieve I had a double hook up first cast on the crunchers. It took me at least 5 minutes to land both. From then on the day flew by, picking up fish steadily. The new stocking policy appears to be working and the quality of fish was impeccable. These were fit and hard fighting. I would recommend a visit to anyone!

Fish were caught on dries (F-fly), crunchers and blobs and Ali and I had a great time. The water was looking in great condition and we had absolutely no difficulty with weeds which have obviously been removed since the new owners took over.

I love Selmmuir, Bangour and Allandale but I will certainly be visiting Morton regularly.

We're planning to go there on Monday(my 1st time there) so hopefully, we have as good a day as you did

What's best there? Boat or bank?

I have fished this water since it 1st opened 30+ years ago when it was almost shoulder to shoulder popular, following a bad few years from the last owners I forecast a return to previous popularity.
John the manager has installed a new dock, and platforms right round giving safer access to the dam wall.
Boat and bank fishing is brilliant, (if you don't catch blame youself not the fishery).
All the popular lures do well but top of the water excells.

Whilst I do not doubt your report the fact that the catch reports have not been updated on the website since June 2011 and the lack of recent reports on this forum will not exactly encourage people to go give it a go .
