Default UK Saltwater FF in the South West

I've just moved to Bristol and want to try a bit of saltwater fly fishing this year, mullet and bass being the main target, any advice on areas to try? I don't mind travelling but any tips on whether Devon, Dorset or South Wales would be best to try first and any info on known marks would be much appreciated.

You will find most keen bass fishermen and uk swffers tend to prefer to share info with close friends rather than the whole web, WSF is a good forum to poke around. Guys are less candid (Thats a polite way of putting it)

Other tips would be join BASS(Bass Anglers) - Buy hooked on bass by Mike Ladle and head straight to chapter5, Start Google earthing.

It takes a while to piece it together but thats the reason it can be so rewarding

tight lines

Thanks Oz, yes I have just re-read my post and it does look like I'm asking people to share their hard won knowledge with a complete stranger... I assumed most swffers weren't generally going to want tell the whole world their favourite secret spots they have spent years finding - quite understandably. It was more just a general idea of where to start I was after so I can begin piecing it together for myself. I think a few recces to likely looking bits of coastline may be in order...

This is a very dusty article . Circa 2007

Hooked on Bass is such a great book , Well written. Its mostly about lure and Bait fishing, That doesnt matter. If you have the Bass bug the book will fire up your imagination and get you all hot under the collar . Chapter 5 is the key .!

If Im on the boat then the bright sunshine does not phase me , from the shore it all changes . Dawn / Dusk / Night will increase your chances as the Bass come in super shallow in low light I think a large number sculk off to around 10 - 20 depth once the sun goas past 10 O ' Clock in the sky

Its all about finding places where the fly works to your advantage rather then disadvantage. If the fishing is tough going then my fly fishing clents will always out fish the lure guys.

Fly fishing is by far the most enjoyable way to catch fek all so your onto a winner !
