Default New Here, which fly line?

Hey guys, I'm new here and rather new to fly fishing. I live at the beach and love the intracoastal redfishing. So I've decided to pick up flyfishing. Got a pretty good outfit(I think) I've put together for Christmas and now I'm working on the line. Just trying to get some line on until I can get some better line in a month or 2. Right now I'm looking at cortlands fairplay from dicks or some scientific anglers bass/swt bbt line on ebay. Both are about the same price.
Here's the links:
Cortland Line Fairplay Floating Orange Fly Line - Dick's Sporting Goods

Scientific Angler Fly Line Bass/SWT WF-8-F BBT Green NIB | eBay

Which would you suggest? I think the big bass taper might help with larger flies but really I'm not sure if it wouldn't be recommended for redfish. I know for fly line both are really cheap but that's kind of what I need right now.

If you're wondering, my fly outfit consists of:
Okuma SLV 8/9 from amazon -$45
Cabelas Wind River 8wt rod - $40
Probably 16lb leader, we get put on 30"+ reds pretty commonly
Spent quite some time trying to find good beginner stuff at good prices and I'm open to any veteran opinions.

Thanks!

Greetings my friend, I envy you living by the beach. I cannot help you with
your choice of fly line, no experience of coastal fly fishing, but let us know
how you progress. Someone on here will advise you.
Good luck, Gary.

Hi tryin2fly

I'm also new to flyfishing and live near the sea, not on the beach unfortunately lol. I just got my first rig together on Saturday and have been using it around the estuaries and in the broadwater. It's an 8# TFO rod with a Scientific Anglers Bonefish line which is perfectly suited for the Tarpon, Trevally, Herring and Flatheads we're catching around here. The Bonefish also has the extra fat head and casts beautifully.

I can't speak for the SA Bass/SWT but if you can get your hands on a Bonefish I'd recommend it for a good floating line.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Ryan

Welcome tryin2fly.
You will find all the information you need on this site.
Saltwater flylines come in various forms so without confusing you I'll keep it Simple.
You don't say where you live so you might want a coldwater line or a warm water line.
Cold water below 27c warm water above.
As it would appear that you will be fishing from the beach I would recommed a Weightforward Intermedite Line this is a line that very slowly sinks that way your line will stay below the surface and not get caught up in the breakers. the other piece of kit to get or make in a linetray this will stop the line getting all tangled up.
Hope this helps and you don't need to spend a lot on a flyline.
good luck.

Hey guys thanks for the responses. I live in southern North Carolina so water gets warm during the summer but down to about 40-50 in the cold winter. Also for flying Ill mostly be doing it from boats in the creeks and bays/flats.

I would go for any reasonably priced WF line with a relatively short head. I believe presentation is less important for SW compared to distance and that sort of lines are easier to cast. Lines deisgned for pike / predetors are normally good. RW TT Ambush might be a good shot.
