Default whats best for pollock

Hi guys

I have not caught a pollock on a lure as of yet but still trying, I used to watch the old fishing programmes on tv and they used to use black red gills to catch them from deep wrecks, but what would people say is the best colour and FLY to use from the shore when chasing them in deep water??

Pretty much anything as they aren't picky. Black based flies work well in deeper and darker water and translucent flies with a bit of flash work great in clear water. Clousers would be a good start, they love that jiggy action. The key thing is to get the fly down to where they are.

As JRT said - they're not fussy, although black is a good one to start with. If you're not catching, the chances are you have the depth wrong or there are no fish in front of you because of the mark/tide/conditions etc.
When I fished for Pollack as a kid, I used to use my Grandad's old reservoir lures with a good deal of success - any one would catch. More serious Pollack fishing requires strong hooks though.

I would love to try fly fishing for Pollock but i dont know any good marks in my area where you can fly fishing for them.
I have however caught some crackers fishing will black Jelly worms with orange tails.

I would tie up something along those lines as i have caught lots of good pollock on them.

Anyone care to pass on any good marks in central Scotland?

Around plymouth I used Black/Orange deceivers and marabou lures on di7 lines.
On bright settled days in the summer they seemed to like brighter flies with more flash.

Ed

Not so much Central Scotland, i have however caught loads of Pollok under the Ballachuillish bridge, which is more or less the narrows between Loch Leven and Loch Linnhe, i would fish it most evenings after work, when i built a house up there, around 4 years ago, they would take fly or spinner, and are pretty good sport, as are the few sea trout i had there also.

Best regards
Jim
