I know very little about tides but was given similar advice to what you say. I have spent a lot of time stalking and just watching their movements at the said times. I've caught loads of bonefish on my own without a guide at various times of the day. imho if you can find the flats where they are, you can catch them anytime regardless of the state of the tide. That's assuming they are hungry

I would have said fish the flooding tide. Water movement (flooding or ebbing) stimulates feeding from large and small. With a flooding tide it's great to watch bonefish stacked up and moving in with the water flow to the mangroves.

But remember Stewart, those flats dont have gullies and dry spots at low tide!
They are flat and level for miles!
Hence the 2 plus 2 rule!
you know it works!

In Cuba and Bahamas at HT the fish can be up in the mangroves and therefore inaccessible so many fish LT up and HT+2 down. At LT channels and drop offs can hold lots of fish waiting for the tide. But I guess it varies depending on the topography.

Hi Rook

I was told the same whilst in Cuba. While the the tide was going out we positioned ouselves at the edge of the mangroves to catch them going out thereafter we positioned ourselves to meet them at places the guide knew where they would come in with the raising tide. In between the the tides we looked for any fish that was on the feed.

it all depend where you fish. some places you have to fish the tides. I fish a flat in nassau you can only fish there on the first 2/3 incoming tides in the morning evening tides is not that good

I think you need to research the specific destination. I prefer neap tides for Bones, the Big springs often flood in so fast that the bones will shoot in fast so the window of opportunity is small.Blink and the shoal has moved on. They are more spooky on the big springs as predators can get onto the flats and hunt .

Its so hard to get specific tide data ahead of a trip. 1/2 the most 'Native' guides ive fished with just seem to shrug thier shoulders and mumble when you ask for tide times and personal preferences. Its the same where ever you go
