Default Advice needed on saltwater lines

Looking for a couple of saltwater lines, ( floating and intermidiate ) I don't want to spend a fortune as this will be my first crack at it, I have contacted the Pirate but believe his lines are for freshwater fishing.

Anyone recommend a budget line to get me started, tackle bargains have airflo coldwater lines for £15 but I'm guessing they probably aren't up to much, would freshwater lines just rot ?

they won't rot, no. It's not that they are made of anything different for the most part, they simply have a different taper to cope with the conditions and the larger fly size, which is the most important bit. Airflo saltwater lines are pretty freely available at bargain prices on the net, but it might pay to put something in the wanted section on here too. There are others like the Rio Mainstream saltwater line also which are good value.

If you are fishing in the UK, then many freshwater lines will suffice for now.

Bass or bug tapers will do well as they are heavily loaded up front.

There are (I think) a few in the charity section

Good luck

Thanks for the replies, not to sure about the lines in the auction, I know ****** all about saltwater lines so I'll have to have a quick gander on the net to see what might be of use to me amongst the ones for sale !

Just get a standard flyline. You don't need any fancy saltwater tapers. You can trim a couple of feet off the front of the line to help turnover bigger flies.

Airflo saltwalter lines are excellent!
I use nothing else and certainly wouldn't drop £60 on the **** RIO and SA 'saltwater' lines.

Also freshwater lines are fine as MJB says but get the heavier taper ones. Pirates lines are a bit too light IMO.

I have used Rio, Wulf, Airflo 40+ and Cabelas salt water lines and the cabelas is a good budget line. If you want to use it in the UK get the cold water versions but if you want to use it in the tropics get the tropical line, a cold water line goes very strange in warm water! The Airflo I have used is the freshwater one, it goes well in the cold salt.
All the best.
Mike
