Default Spots in the North East

I am interested to find out if anyone has caught any bass or mackeral or any salt water fish in the North East on the Fly and can suggest any spots to try.

You’ll get Mackerel in summer all the way up the NE coast. I know there were reports of them, in good number, in all the local sea angling reports earlier on in the summer, but given the cold, windy, weather of recent weeks, you might find they’ve already done a bunk by now. September is usually the cut-off even in a warmer summer.

Bass you might find even more tricky, being even more put off by cold water than the makkies. They do get caught frequently from marks as far up as the Tees, in high summer, but north of there they are more sporadic and all but unheard of along the Northumberland coast since the closure of Blyth Power Station & its outfall.

If the mackerel are still around, the best place I can think of to try saltwater fly fishing would be off the rocks at Spital Point, immediately to the south of Newbiggin, at high tide. Similarly, from the rocks at Cullernose and Howick, about a mile south of Craster, and those immediately to the north of the village, on the way to Dunstanburgh. I’ve never seen anyone do it mind, and you might get a few funny looks from the local sea angling fraternity if you tried it while they were around!

A little late for those now.
But you can still take flounders, whitting and cod of the rocky marks at low tide.
Its hard work you will need to put the hours in try redcar scars saltburn rocks to the left of the pier are all worth a try.

Try ukswff.co.uk, quite an entertaining report from someone who tried it recently from Cambois beach:
