Default What would the Forum think about arranging a group trip for big pelagics?

Hullo Chaps

I have been thinking about doing a trip somewhere next year for some serious pelagics like dorado, tuna, king macks, doggies, wahoo etc.

Personally, I am not interested in big billfish - too much "down time" not fishing for other species.

Probably because I just bagged the biggest set of huge rapalas for a dime from the USA. up to 9" long!!

Anyway, I wondered whether it would be an idea to see if anyone wished to form a group and see whether we could arrange a decent discount for a large group?

I know, for instance, that flights to Tanzania are not costly and accomodation and fishing is not to costly at Kilwa but the fishing is nigh on World Class.

So I think there are many options open to us but, dang! I am desperate for some serious fishing for serious fish.

Anyone keen to discuss this?

Ben

Chris, well, I think that depends on destination and season.

Kilwa, for instance, seems to be hot in November for dorado and tuna etc.

Have you any suggestions?

I recall that Paul Young episode where they all flyfished off that Mothership somewhere wau off Australia and were all hooking up to big rainbow runners and tuna. That was crazy.

Personally, I will fancy focussing on conventional light tackle with fly fishing a minor second.

Any thoughts?

What time of year were you thinking ?

And for how long ?

It sounds absolutely fantastic. Apart from the fact that I have almost none of the kit and almost none of the funds

Hey Rob

Most locations will have boats that supply gear but my experience has been that this gear is very heavy and an overkill for most but the biggest fish.

As it goes, I have around 4 conventional rigs for anything from 12-30lb set ups plus a few medium sized spinning rigs.

That aside, I do also have enough lures to start my own shop

So, with any borrowing, we should all be ok for a crew of up to 6plus.

I think it would be great if we ended up with 6-10 people.

As for timelines, well, I think from the early Spring onwards of next year as that allows us to get over Christmas and the snowboarding season (well, for me at least)

Waddya think?

Jeff, You may be suprised at how cheaply some of these trips can be done.

I look ed at Kilwa for when I am in Tanzania next week. A perfectly suitable 18ft boat for around £200 a day and flights at £300 and accomodation for maybe £50 a day or thereabouts.

Remember that a boat can be shared by 3 people for that size and it works out even cheaper.

For sure, you may be looking at £1000 for a week but compared to how much it could be for the usual places and it is much cheaper. That is cheaper than many holidays and includes your fishing too

I think Kilwa also has mangroves full of jacks and the like and canoes......just mind the scaley-backs

I am also thinking that if a resort/lodge gets booked out by the same party, we could wangle a discount too

Just a thought.

I would be up for it , but would ideally like to sort the intended dates out before the New year as I am trying to talk the wife into a trip to Aussie later in the year.

Right,

I have been pricing a few places in Tanzania as this is a 9hr overnight flight from London with me just having paid c. £350 for a flight into Dar Es Salaam.

Mwangaza Lodge - Kilwa area

Good looking boats with some serious gear for fishing inc fishing skis for the adventurous!

Looks like they are offering specials of c. $2000 for 5 days fishing full board.

Kilwa Ruins

Game Fishing Rates | Kilwa Ruins Lodge

Another nice spot with "rustic-chic" lodges and some decent looking prices for accomodation and fishing.

Kilwa Dreams

Found this one too which promotes C&R on Game Fish apart from for th epot.

Anyway, these are just to get a few ideas out there for us to peek at.
