Default Anyone fished on the Beara Peninsula?

I'm heading to the Beara Peninsula, Cork in a couple of weeks and wondered if anyone had tried the fly there?

Plenty of fishing on the Kenmare side of the Beara (northern coast). Th esouthern coast has good thornbacks and bottom fishing - pollack are ubiquitous and run quite big. Don't be surprised if you get 8lb pollack off the rocks.

Take an #8 outfit. Bass in the usual bassy places - reefs, broken ground.

Where are you basing yourself. The Gap takes an age to drive if you are heading across. You are not that far to drive, a very pleasant day out drive, to Sneem and around the bottom part of the Ring of Kerry.

Heading the other way, to W. Cork you are in prime bass country.

Long and short of it, yes, the fishing is excellent and varied - mullet in the harbours too, if you tie up some Diawl Bachs on saltwater #12 hooks. #6 outfit and 6lb fluorocarbon tippet....and hang on!

Great response Tailing Loop, thanks.

I'll be staying with Paul Harris in Ardrigole from the 10th-17th September. Am taking everything but the kitchen sink by way of gear; beachcasters, spinning rod and my trusty 9wt Sage. Can't wait. I'll post a report when I get back

Regards

Phil
