Default Looking for camping / fishing in the South West (Dorset, Devon, South Wales)

Hi, I'm looking for somewhere nice to go camping with the girlfriend which is near the coast and where I can take her fishing.

Camping wise would like a nice quiet picturesque campsite (not full of rowdy youths). Being near a pub and allowing open fires would be good but not essential).

Fishing wise I would like somewhere fairly easy so she can catch some fish (not long range beach casting or dangerous rocks). I don't mind fishing of the rocks if they are sheltered. I would like to try out my saltwater fly fishing gear if possible, but we will both be taking bait fishing rods (carp rods & spinning gear). Does not really matter if I can't fly fish as long we catch something.

She is well keen to go again after fishing of Weymouth pier a few weeks ago and catching a load of small wrasse. Obviously I am keen to encourage more of this Maybe I will even get her to take up fly fishing.

Any Ideas ?

Cheers,

Rik

Try this Centry Touring Caravans and Tents you've got Berry Head (long walk up and down but easy fishing for Mackerel and Wrasse), Brixham Breakwater (Mackerel Wrasse, Pollack, Conger). The breakwater is where I'll be having a go at the Mackerel on the fly this year (early morning as it gets busy there).

Hi, there's not a bad place not too far from where you were in Weymouth called Bowleaze cove, don't let the touristy side of things put you off as there is some great little areas for a fish and a choice of places to stay. Have a look here: Bowleaze Cove, Weymouth, Dorset. and see what you think (eweleaze farm site is a must look at!).

Regards

Jay

Ive fished shell island during the first week of June for TEN YEARS! and NEVER caught a thing - moreover I've only ever seen 1 small flounder caught - at times i've taken up to 5 mates with me... so would have expected more to come out...
it may be a different story after dark... but either way its no place for a beginner.

(edit... though I love shell island itself - best campsite in Britain... hence the annual pilgrimage there for the last decade)

Just got back from eweleaze farm, open fires, organic farm meat, home baked bread, camping on cliff over secluded bay. Fishing Fleet lagoon Chesil, fly from shore only and when your done go to the Crab house cafe at Chesil ferry point, but dont forget to use your bib for the cracked crab.

Seafood Restaurant - Crab House Café - Dorset

EWELEAZE FARM - Camping by the sea on the south coast of Dorset, UK - beautiful campsite located near osmington, Weymouth with wonderful sea views open during August for tent camping.

On second thoughts dont bother, I dont want to see anyone else on my beach next year!
