I remember a travel book by a chap called Tim Cahill, who came up with some wonderful titles - I think this one was called 'Jaguars Ripped My Flesh'! He wrote about a place in Guatemala (called Peten, I think), where the lunker tarpon migrated into freshwater lagoons a long way from the sea each year. I think he theorised that they came there to spawn...but might/probably will be wrong.
