Default DIY venue November

Does anyone have any suggestions for a DIY venue for my partner and myself this November? I'm going to be working in the US at this time and that, along with who I'm working for exludes Cuba. My initial thoughts are the Bahamas - although not Eleuthera (we fancy a change having visited there 3 times). So perhaps Long Island, Cat Island or Mayaguana? Or any other suggestions regarding places to stay etc.

Thanks, James.

Hi Bert,

Many thanks for that - I'll definitely look into it, Mexico would be quite handy to get to. Also, roosterfish are high on my list of 'want to catch on a fly rod' species.

Cheers, James.

Baja Sea Of Dreams(Cortez) can be a little windy in wintertime so pot luck.Recommend Los Barriles to stay.Martin Verdugos excellent value.Miles of beaches.Hire wheels advisable.

Cabo San Lucas Baja Sur is not a sleepy little fishing village any longer but is close to some fabulous fishing in Cortez and Pacific Ocean DIY or otherwise.
Hire wheels advisable.

Todos Santos area Baja California Pacific Ocean. You would need hire vehicle to reach out of town locations.Even odds for Baja roosterfish in November but you might get lucky.

Zihuatanejo is another good November destination but again you need wheels to reach good beaches/rocky outcrops although there are a couple in the bay.
Panga charter best option here to find roosterfish quickly.

Thanks JP - I don't know a lot about roosterfish, are they present year round? Also do you know if there's a season for dorado?

There is a US based company called Fishabout that specialises in fly trips to Baja. You could do worse than look at their website/contact them.

My understanding is that both dorado and roosters are not common in the autumn. The regulars that go there are there in summertime.

Hope this helps.

You could check out Bonefishbonefish.com in Abaco.
Excellent fishing for large bones. Accomodation, all meals, rental car and kayaks for the entire stay, 1 day guided fishing +++
At a VERY reasonable price.
November is a good month to fish there, hardly any other fisherman, and usually good weather.

I can't believe anyone in the UK would even consider traveling all the way to Hawaii to catch a few poxy bonefish, even though there is more than a fair chance of picking up a double figure fish or two.....If it must be bones, then Abaco will give you an even better chance of a double figure bone, as will Biscayne Bay, and both are a whole lot closer

Now GT's are a different proposition altogether, but again if you want to target them, there are many African destinations that are a lot closer to the UK than Hawaii.

Aenoons suggestion of the Baja (sea of cortez) would give you a chance at a huge variety of hard fighting fish, but really you would need to go in the summer months to get the best of the fishing

Read the question properly. The guy will be in the States at that time not the UK.
