Salmon from the sea.
Hello all,
I wondered if there were any fishermen chasing salmon and sea-trout from coastal waters. I have had some experience with both species, both on fly and spinner, from the Outer Hebrides and thought I might apply what I learnt to the Clyde estuary.
I am based in Ayr, with the river Ayr and Doon draining into the bay. I have purchased an 18ft clinker and think it might be worth having a go, particularly during dry spells, in the bay. Does anybody do this? I know some fish Rhu and Cardross for sea-trout but this is primarily from the shore with mackerel strips.
Do any Lomond anglers troll the Clyde estuary? If so is the technique the same for the estuary as the loch? Do the fish hug the shoreline in the 3 to 8 ft range or are they deeper?
I have also heard that the bass are making their way North with some getting caught locally. Are there any fisherman willing to share their experiences on this. I have heard Irvine is the place but what techniques work? I would be most interested in fly flishing for them.
