life is far too short Wullie!!!
Had a great time, bones to 6lb, jacks, barracuda, snapper, down eyes, angel fish, an awesome battle with a 20/25lb tarpon on a 6wt before i was forced to break it of, as it was vanishing into the horizon with my line and 200yds of backing!!!!!

Hi Bert,
Is this a Cuban Shrimp? and secondly, will it be effective for sea trout on the clyde?
Reason I ask is the wideopen.dk site shows similar shrimp patterns that are effective, however this is in denmark But I have seen small clear/white shrimps in the clyde recently (saltwater) and I beleive sea trout will gorge themselves on these.

Cheers
Kevin

I like the way this fly has been renamed by Fulling Mill to the Cuban shrimp from its original name - Veverka's Mantis Shrimp (the guy who writes the Bahamas Bonefish Guide).

Veverka's Mantis Shrimp

I spent most nights tying these up for people when I was at JDR in 2001. Size 6 was best.
I used Orvis dub which has a nice sparkle to it. It also works well tied in cream for sand flats. If you tie the mono eyes slightly angled up the same way as the hook bend it helps flip the fly and swims correctly.

Brewster's Amber is another excellent pattern for Cuba.

If anyone has ever seen a fully grown Mantis Shrimp you'll know that they themselves will take a fly! I caught one last year on Kiribati and had it for my dinner - one of the finest things I've ever eaten...
