Default Bass fishing, Dorset coast, September

I shall be going on a family holiday to south Dorset for a week in early September and will be staying close to St Albans Head, west of Swanage. I’ve no idea how much fishing I might ‘negotiate’ while I’m there, but I’ll be taking fly and lure gear with me. I’m a competent fly fisher, and not bad at slinging lures around, particularly surface lures. I’ve a suspicion that this might be halfway decent bass country at this time of year. Would anyone who knows the area like to confirm this and perhaps offer any tips/advice? I know the protocol with requests like this, so any PM’s will be very welcome.

The whole of the Dorset coast is good Bass country but it does get fished very hard by lots of people.
Goggle maps will help pin point the best areas to fish.

Not sure what the ticket situ is now, but Christchurch harbour can be VERY good. A call to Davis Tackle in Christchurch will provide a heads up.

Tightlines

Most of it you do need to buy a ticket from Davis Tackle to fish inside the harbour, and there aren't that many places where you're allowed to. I was down last week and it's £7 for the day till sunset or £11 for 24 hrs. Having read a bit about it on several sea forums it seems that very few of the bait sea fishers actually do this and it does feel wrong paying to fish tidal waters, and it's catch and release. However it can be very good!!

What are the tides doing when you're down? I wouldn't get too excited if it's neaps. I would say reading Mike Ladle's blog is an essential and will save you a fortune in petrol on the places that have been suggested. Chesil is murder on flies and a decent SW blow will make it downright dangerous to stand anywhere remotely close to the waters edge.
