Default Mid/North Wales Coast

Hi All

My brother has been asking me to go SWFF soon and I want to pick everyones brains about the best places to go in Mid or North Wales. Don't mind what we are fishing for, just don't want to be thrashing stretches of water completely void of fish!

Over to you chaps.

Cheers

Steve

It is just warming up nicely. The bass are starting to bite, the mackerel are about in one or two locations around the country, garfish won't be long either, pollock off the rocks, coalfish in North wales (Anglesey rocks on the north).

Be a bit more specific about your radius of driving you are happy with. Then it can be whittled down a bit.

Do you just want to catch a fish? Or do you want to catch a worthwhile fish?

Plenty to go at, you just need to have a bit more detail in your request, but don't expect anyone to come along and say: "stand here, tie this fly on and cat there", because knowledge is hard won, and the results at the end of it are all the sweeter for it - and prepare to get wet. If you don't get wet, you are not fishing close enough!

Well we both live in the Shrewsbury area so I guess that Barmouth to Rhyl is OK inc Anglesey.

I suppose if we had to chose between decent fish or the best chance of a fish, at this stage we would go for best chance of a fish.

If I was heading to the coast from Shrewsbury, (and I frequently head there from Knockin), I'd be looking at OS maps and Google earth for structure perhaps reefs rocky or broken ground along the coast between say Aberdovey and Barmouth as they're easy striking distance. There are a couple of areas that stand out like a sore thumb along that coast and they are good marks to fish with a fly. You probably won't be on your own if you hit the most obvious ones, but you will likely see fish being caught.

I'd turn up at low tide and have a good look around generally fish will show up as the tide pushes in over areas previously high and dry. Keep an eye on the direction the tide is moving, it's doesn't just come in! Tidal movement will produce currents much like rivers do that will funnel food towards fish. Be prepared for early starts and late finishes to enjoy the best of it.

If you see a china man with a scouse accent driving a transit van catching undersizad fish you've picked a good mark!

Hi Guys

Can't tell you how much we appreciate the advice.

Will definitely watch out for a scouse china man (perm, moustache and shouting 'calm down'? ) and say hello.

Alun....hopefully be in touch sometime.

Thanks again fellas
