Default Good start to the season

Hi guys i'm new on here. what a great couple of hours we had bass fishing lastweek. Most fish were caught on slug go's and the first fish was a plump 4 pounder. The total tally for the couple of hours we had, was 20 bass a few polllack and a string of mackerel. Not bad for this time of year, cheers,

Mathew.

Well done, but what sort of fly is a slug go?

As chance would have it I will be holidaying in west wales in about 6 weeks. with family in tow, I won't have as much time as I would like fishing, but really looking forward to swff'ing. any advice on locations where shore fishing is possible / productive and favourite flies would be really useful.

Hi i never went out with the fly rod that time, and a slug go is a rubber sandeel if you like.

Best place to try of the beach would be the sand dunes of trefeddian beach north of aberdovey. Also you could try the new sea defence they have built on tywyn beach, i had a few follows the other night from some school bass. If those places don't produce then try the mouth of the dysynni river, very good 2 hours before high or low water. Flie to try would be any sandeel like patteren or deceivers, i would try and keep the colours to a minimum, tan or white do the best.

Hope this helps, cheers,

Mat,

Thanks for your thoughts Mat. I'm beginning to pick up that fly pattern isn't too critical - if they want it, they want it! I'll throw together some clousers. have you had any success with mylar bodied fry patterns? And what size hooks would you suggest. I've got some stainless hooks in a size 2 I picked up somewhere - they look scary big to me, I'm more used to 16's and 18's. Is size 2 too big?

Hi sog your right in some ways that a bass will take it if he wants it, but i've been plenty of times where you can everyhting at them and they won't take.

Regards to hook size, size 2 is perfect, most of my flies are a 2 or 4. I don't fish much with myler bodied fly's, i can't say i've had much luck, worth a try though, cheers,
