Default Line stripping tray

This may have been posted before but I thought I'd highlight it again.

Orvis line stripping tray cost £45

Obviously you will need to add a strap and some spikes to the Ikea one but it's still a huge saving on what is essentially the same item.

I was in the Orvis shop in Harrogate when I spotted that tray and then read the price. I called my wife over, who appeared unsurprised - I do hope that she is not getting a handle on how much fishing gear actually costs

I don't care how good their gear is, that has to be a rip off.

I like the ikea stool - if you come up with an idea for the spikes, I hope that you will post it.

TBH mate an idea for the spikes has already been posted (I just wanted to repost the Ikea stool as even I was shocked at the 'proper' line tray price). What you do is buy a load of silicon tube nozzles (available in bulk on ebay for just a few pounds, I think I paid £3 for 24) drill through and glue them in place. The other idea I've seen is to drill through the bottom of the tray and use cable ties to make the spikes.

Thanks for that.
I've been meaning to give a tray a go for a while now.

silicon nozzels are the best spikes i have found rather than cable ties.

Also if drilling the ikea bowl find a drill bit that is just slightly smaller diameter than the nozzel size as when the nozzels are pushed in they will hold tight with no glue needed etc and the whole basket will feel like a solid bit of kit.

Only small negative the ikea basket step is a little too small if you are using lines heavier than 7wt it will soon run out of space inside if you are casting long distances.

but overall for general fishing etc its brilliant.

The cable ties idea works for me, as I can push them flat to carry gear in the basket, and when I want to use it, I simply lift them up straight again.

Cable ties here too...

Could probably do with being slightly larger for my 8wt, but it fits nicely on back of the bike as is.

That's a good'un wish I hadn't blown my budget on silicon nozzles now

In use I've found the U bolts to work well in keeping the line from tangling. It runs out of the tray very well and the fact the U bolts are by definition bolted down means they won't come adrift nor do they snag your fingers in any way.
