Default fishing in looe, cornwall

hi folks. i'm off to looe in corwall next week and was wondering what the fishing is like there. i've never been to the area before so am happy to fish for anything as long as it's on the fly. any good rivers or streams near or stillwaters. I'd love to do some saltwater flyfishing too but i don't really know too much about that really.

if i was to try a bit of swffing, then what set up would you recommend. i've done a bit before so have got plenty of gear, but no idea

any info on places and marks would be greatly appreciated. anyone who offers to 'show me the ropes' will be rewarded with these. thanks for reading folks.

Others will know more but you will find mullet along the quayside and bass along the coast. My only concern is that it might be a bit early to find bass close inshore and it's also too early for mackerel. The Looe River (which has two arms) is a sea trout river but again later in the year. Just up the coast a little is Seaton/Downderry where you can find bass close inshore later in the year (I got my first 10lb bass there) plus the Seaton River has small wild browns and a few sea trout later on but is generally small and overgrown. The best bet for fly fishing at this time of year maybe to cross into Devon and try the Dartmoor streams on the Duchy of Cornwall land.

Siblyback reservoir, close to Looe - just out of Liskeard, so about 20 miles from Looe.

You staying east or west Looe?

For saltwater, try the rocks at Hannafore. Even now there should be some small pollack around.
Go over the bridge to west Looe and turn left, follow the coast roadround. It ends in a dead end. You will see the iron railings along the path next to the coast wall, there are steps down and there used to be free parking all along there.

If you go to the end, where the dead end is, there is a gate into the field, a stile to the left of it. Follow the cliff path and fish Talland Bay, or any of th erocks along there. Again, it is pollack territory this time of year. You might find a school bass off the rocks on the Looe beach (eastern shore, furthest from the banjo pier, where the sand meets the rocks, you can cast into the back of the waves there by getting out on the rocks.

You could try the shallow, weedy areas for a saltwater seatrout, it is getting a little late for them, but it was a cold winter, so you will still have a few around. First thing in the morning (before dawn), use a small deceiver type fly (something that resembles a herring fry - this kind f thing) or a prawn/shrimp imitation...about a size 1 - size 8
