Default Fishing near Havana

I've got a few days in Havana before heading down to Isla de la Juventud. Does anyone know of any fishing within say an hours drive?
Thanks

you can fish of the malacone - the avenue that runs along the sea front. Stripped poppers work well. You'll catch as sorts of unidentifiable critters

That's about your only option I'm afraid, just watch your back-cast, you don't want to snag a horse.

And take any spare bits of tackle, anything, for the locals, it will open doors.

Oh, and if you're driving, watch out for getting flagged down by a couple in another car. Havana is a nightmare to negotiate, and I've driven in Delhi. The scam is she'll get in with you to show the way out , then hit you for an exorbitant cab fare home. It was tried it on us, but after relating the tale back in Havana, is seems to happen often.

Have a great time.

If you have a hire car, or if you fancy a lengthy hike, it is/was six years ago possible to get round the harbour and fish more or less under the fort. There is a sort of rock sea wall which is fairly accessible, and it was also possible to get round to the open sea side of the fort. I fished with poppers and plugs on that occasion, and caught several jacks and snappers. No-one stopped me, so I presume it was ok - just don't blame me if you get arrested! I have also fished (Marlin) out of the Hemingway Marina - this is expensive, but not so bad if several of you share the boat. I found the standard of boat, and equipment, to be pretty high, and we were lucky enough to catch fish as well. We even managed reasonable communication by way of pidgin spanish (on our part), pidgin english (on the crew's part) and hand signals all round. Latterly, I must admit to have fallen for some of the other delights of La Habana, and leave the fishing until getting to JDR or where-ever. If you've not been to Cuba before, you really should take some time to "see the sights", enjoy the music (try the Floridita in the evening or Hotel Inglaterra at lunchtime) and soak up the atmosphere. Note that if gorgeous young ladies are eying you up, it likely to be more by way of a financial appraisal than a personal one. Enjoy!!
