Default Okuma Airframe Kassette

Hi, I fancy having a go at saltwater & pike fishing, and I'm after an entry level reel. I know the okuma airframe has been recomended a few times on here, but does anyone know if the Okuma Airframe Kassette would be ok for saltwater - like the idea of the spare spools. It looks a totally different beast to the non-cassette version

Many thanks,
Mike

I was looking for an answer to the original question "does anyone know if the Okuma Airframe Kassette would be ok for saltwater"? as I am thinking of changing from my existing saltwater reel too. I certainly wasn't looking to find our what the PM was about. My apologies if it sounded that way.

No worries WO, I'll see how it handles the salt and report back. It's spec'd as being graphite and stainless so should be ok.

Thanks Squeeks, the Airframe is well recommended as a bombproof saltwater reel but like you I wondered whether the cassette version would get the same praise in saltwater use. Very grateful for any feedback you can give me on the issue, much appreciated.

Hi WelshOsprey,
I'm not sure I'll be giving it enough abuse to thoroughly test it, and it won't be until April when I'm in Holiday in Spain. But I'll report back anyway - might even do a report on the trip if successful. I'll be fishing the Guadalqivir estuary at San Lucar de Barrimeda, and hoping for Bass, Mullet, and Corvina which grow man-size apparantly!!

Looking at the Kassette version and reading the blurb, this appears simply to be a standard Airframe with some spare spools and a case and not a different version of the reel.

If this is correct, the Airframe is excellent for UK SWFF. Just rinse under tap after a session and pay a bit of attention to the spindle, then leave to dry. Some of my swff mates don't even bother doing this.

Yep, pretty well bombproof.
