Default Cuban bonefish on the fly

Just got back from Cuba, and wanted to post pics of one of the highlights of my holiday,we stayed at cayo coco, the fishing was amazing from both beach and lagoon behind the hotel catching everything from barracuda to snapper, garfish and bonefish on fly and spinning gear, anyhow had a days guided fishing on the flats, and took bonefish and barracuda, the best being on the 10lb mark, the fight was spectacular with the fish snagging me in the mangroves, the guide freed the line after which it ripped over 200yds of backing off in its first run!the water was only 10 inches deep so it was amazing watching this fish bow wave all over the flat.If you have the opportunity to get there take your rods its breath-taking stuff.

I'm sure i'll get to take my own big game out on some boats

But to be honest once all the stress is out of the way and the lovely lady has had time to run around mexico like a headless chicken im sure i'll be allowed off the lead while she basks in the sun .

Really looking forward to it, and the prospect of having rods smashed to pieces is simply too good to resist.

Did you manage to get out on any?

Yea Dorset, myself,my partner and another couple hired a boat for the day,we went out to the blue water drop offs trying for sailfish and marlin,we had one sail strike and that was it,the sea was a total mill pond so apparently no good for these fish,we headed back inshore and had dorado and loads of barracuda, was a great experience.

No tackle shops in Cuba. It would be wise to take your own gear.

Cheers
Mat

Salinas on Cuba's south coast right by the Bay of Pigs is good too. the arrangement there is all guided fishing only on boats inside a national park, so you have about 30,000 acres of flats to share with the flamingoes and no holidaymakers. max about 10 rods a day, bones, tarpon and -- promised but unseen - permit. Only thing is, you can't have a day's guided and then do your own thing, as Salinas is hard to get to (around 20 miles down a dirt road inside the park) and access controlled. Said to be the best value on Cuba.
